Marc Verter

Biography

Marc Verter is one of the most exciting and versatile collaborative pianists of his generation. A passionate song performer, he dedicates much of his time performing with singers. Marc is joint artistic director of the Chelsea Schubert Festival which has a special focus on the song and chamber music repertoire. Marc’s growing reputation as an ensemble musician has led to an increase in his work with chamber music groups and this has resulted in his founding a piano trio.  Alongside his performing work Marc is a highly sought after vocal coach and repetiteur. He is currently on the staff of the Vocal Department at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as a vocal coach.

Marc performs regularly in the UK and abroad in venues such as the Wigmore Hall, Barbican Centre, St. John's Smith Square, Sheffield University, Canterbury Festival, Aldeburgh, Birmingham University, the Oxford Lieder Festival, the Chelsea Schubert festival and St Martin in the Fields.

Marc has performed song recitals which were broadcast live on the radio in Jerusalem, Brussels and in Amsterdam and has worked with singers such as Kate Royal, Claire Booth, Benedict Nelson, David Stout, Katherine Broderick and Elena Xanthoudakis as well as internationally renowned singers such as Nelly Miricoiu, Yvonne Kenny , Sarah Walker and Jonathan Lemalu. His first CD with Soprano Ilona Domnich, featuring songs by Strauss, Rachmaninoff and Fauré was released on Quarts label in December 2009. Future recording plans include work with soprano Julia Kogan.  Together with Ms. Kogan he has embarked on a new song project  A Random Walk down Song Street which will see them perform concerts across the United Sates and Europe.

He has performed in festivals in Israel, Belgium, Spain, Holland, France, USA, Canada and the UK including the Britten-Pears School, Ravinia Festival in Chicago (Steans Institute). As a repetiteur Marc has worked at the the Aix en Provence Festival 2007 and in Dartington, 2010 and 2011. He has directed Opera scenes at the AIMS International Music School in Eastbourne and will be directing Mozart and Strauss opera scenes in a Humanitas - Culture production in Chelsea, July 2011.  

Marc is invited regularly to adjudicate song competitions in London including the Clara Schumann competition at Trinity College of Music.

Over the past few years he has received numerous awards for his  song accompaniment from the Geoffrey Parsons Memorial Trust, the Patricia Routledge English Song Competition, the Titanic award at the Guildhall School, the Kathleen Ferrier society bursaries and the Great Elm competition.

Marc holds an M.Mus degree from Indiana University School of Music and an M.Mus Degree in accompaniment from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London where he studied with Graham Johnson. He is presently writing his doctoral thesis on French song which uses the poetry of Charles Baudelaire.
